Castelli del Grevepesa was established in 1965 by a small group of 18 winegrowers from Tuscany by initiative of Gualtiero Armando Nunzi. Their aim was to create a solid organisation which united, in a single shared project, several people from the various territories of Chianti Classico, to maintain intact the age-old traditions of Tuscan winegrowing, the territory and the farming customs. Since its foundation, it has pursued the aim of producing high quality wines in observance of the strict laws and bylaws of the Gallo Nero Consortium, carrying out the meticulous selection of the grapes.
To date, Castelli del Grevepesa can count on about 150 member estates, 4 of which are still the first founders. Most of the Member Estates are situated in the territories of Chianti Classico, which extend mainly in the areas of Greve in Chianti, Mercatale Val di Pesa, San Casciano Val di Pesa, Tavarnelle Val di Pesa and Barberino Val d’Elsa.
The enhancement of the territories of tuscan agricultural reference, through the production of excellent quality products at a reasonable price.
Castelli del Grevepesa is the leading producer of Chianti Classico in terms of quantity and terroirs. All the Member Estates of Castelli del Grevepesa are monitored scrupulously during the year and during the grape harvest by Agronomists, who are responsible for verifying the state of the vineyards on the basis of the seasonal trend. The grapes, which are all supplied to Castelli del Grevepesa by its Members, are monitored and checked in the laboratory, from arrival at the cellar to bottling by the cellar-men, guided by the oenologist Stefano Mosele. Vinification is very complex at Castelli del Grevepesa, in that, right up to the final blending, the wines of the various zones/vineyards are kept and processed separately. This is because each individual production zone must be able to express its own organoleptic characteristics and this is the only way to do so. Castelli del Grevepesa is the only company in the world that can present such an articulate range of Chianti terroirs produced completely from the grapes to the bottle.
